Why This Album Matters
The album O Importante É Que a Nossa Emoção Sobreviva represents a singular milestone in the discography of Eduardo Gudin, Paulo César Pinheiro and Márcia, being the phonographic transposition of a show of the same name. Initially released in two volumes, in 1974 and 1976, it captures the essence of a performance that resonated deeply with the audience of the time, presented at the iconic Teatro Oficina, in São Paulo. This project is a celebration of MPB, highlighting the harmony and artistic depth of the trio. The work stands out not only for the gathering of established talents, but also for the way it crystallises the experience of a theatrical show in album format. It is a testament to Gudin's ability as a composer and arranger, Pinheiro's poetry and Márcia's vocal expressiveness, together in a musical dialogue that transcends a simple studio recording.
Context
Before the release of O Importante É Que a Nossa Emoção Sobreviva, Eduardo Gudin had already built a promising career, which began at 16 with his participation in 'O Fino da Bossa' on TV Record. His skill as a composer was quickly recognised, classifying and winning important festivals with songs such as "Choro do Amor Vivido" and "Lá Se Vão Meus Anéis", the latter in partnership with Paulo César Pinheiro. Márcia was also an already well-known interpreter, having taken "Gostei de Ver" to third place in a festival, with her and Originais do Samba, with whom she also performed "Lá Se Vão Meus Anéis". The album emerged at the beginning of Gudin's career with the Odeon label, following his debut album in 1973. The collaboration with Paulo César Pinheiro and Márcia was already a natural progression, given their history of partnerships and the recognition of all three in the Brazilian music scene, culminating in the show at Teatro Oficina that generated this recording.
Recording
The core of O Importante É Que a Nossa Emoção Sobreviva lies in the songs from the theatrical show of the same name, which were performed by Eduardo Gudin, Márcia and Paulo César Pinheiro at Teatro Oficina, in São Paulo. The albums served as a phonographic record of this live experience, allowing the emotion and artistic proposal of the show to be immortalised and shared with a wider audience.

Among them, I highlight the theme of O Importante é Que a Nossa Emoção Sobreviva, recorded on two dates in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in 1975 and 1976 with singers Eduardo Gudin (already a long-time songwriting partner) and Márcia (an 'expressive and original' singer, in the words of Zuza Homem de Mello).

A fabulous work of art in itself, a beautiful contribution against the ugliness of fascism, both past and present.

For those who don't know, it is a live recording, a selection of shows performed in Rio and SP in the early 70s. PC Pinheiro is brilliant; besides being a great poet, he has that voice like Nelson Cavaquinho's.
