Why This Album Matters

Flaviola e o Bando do Sol is a unique landmark in Brazilian music, as the first and only album by the Recife poet, singer, and composer Flaviola. Released on LP in 1976, this work established itself as one of the main exponents of the Pernambuco psychedelic music scene of the 1970s. The record is considered a major exponent of the Udigrudi movement. Its sound is notably highlighted by the participation of musicians who consolidated the 1970s psychedelic agreste, including names like Lula Côrtes, Paulo Raphael, Robertinho de Recife, and Zé da Flauta, who enriched the artistic proposal with their contributions.

Legacy

The importance of Flaviola e o Bando do Sol has been reaffirmed over time through various re-releases. In 2005, the album gained an international edition by a South Korean label, and in 2011, it was re-released by the English label Mr. Bongo Records, which is known for reissuing the SOLAR catalogue. In January 2020, the record saw another LP re-release, joining the Clássicos em Vinil series from Polysom and Rozenbilt record labels. The work's longevity and impact were further celebrated in 2015 when Flaviola performed the album in its entirety and in the original song order at the 23rd edition of the Festival Abril Pro Rock, held in Recife, Pernambuco.
