His professional ascent included performances in gafieiras, work in radio, and nightclubs, even acting as a 'chorus singer' for the renowned Francisco Alves. His definitive consecration came as a samba singer, recording for several labels such as Odeon, Companhia Brasileira de Discos, Philips, and, most notably, Continental, where he would release most of his albums, including this tribute to Lupicínio Rodrigues. By 1972, Jamelão was already a respected figure with a vast discography.

alright, so i finally sat down and gave this Jamelão Interpreta Lupicínio Rodrigues album a real listen. not gonna lie, i kinda stumbled on it while digging through old Brazilian samba records, and honestly? it surprised me. it's from 1982 but sounds way older, which is kinda the point i guess.

Há controvérsias. Tanto que o histórico "Roteiro de um Boêmio", álbum com quatro discos de 78 rpm gravado em 1952 por Lupicínio com seu vocal original, daquele jeito mesmo, cool e sutil, é considerado por fãs como o definitivo registro do autor de "Se Acaso Você Chegasse".
