Context
Before Voadeira, Mônica Salmaso had already demonstrated her talent in two significant works. In 1995, she released Afro-sambas, a voice and guitar duo with Paulo Bellinati that recreated the work of Baden Powell and Vinicius de Moraes. In 1998, Trampolim arrived, her second CD, also produced by Rodolfo Stroeter and featuring collaborations from names such as Naná Vasconcelos. Voadeira, therefore, emerged as the next step in an already ascending career, deepening her partnership with Rodolfo Stroeter and expanding the musical universe of the singer, who was already known for her comprehensive repertoire and elaborate arrangements.
Recording
Voadeira was recorded and released in 1999, retaining Rodolfo Stroeter as producer, a collaboration that had already begun with the album Trampolim. The project brought together a cast of outstanding instrumentalists, contributing to the album's sonic richness. Among the musicians who participated in the recording were names such as Marcos Suzano, Benjamim Taubkin, Toninho Ferragutti, Paulo Bellinati, and Nailor "Proveta" Azevedo, enriching the album's textures and arrangements with their respective contributions.
Legacy
The critical reception for Voadeira was highly positive, attesting to the artistic quality of the work. The São Paulo Association of Art Critics (APCA) chose the album as one of the ten best of the year of its release. Beyond the recognition for the record, Mônica Salmaso was honoured with the APCA Best Female Singer award, highlighting her vocal performance on the album and solidifying her position as one of MPB's great interpreters.
