Legacy

Voz e Suor achieved significant commercial success, surpassing the fifty thousand records sold mark. TV Bandeirantes recorded a special of César Camargo Mariano and Nana Caymmi's show at Maksoud Plaza, featuring the album's repertoire, with show direction by Roberto de Oliveira. The album was received with great acclaim by specialised critics. The newspaper Diario de Pernambuco classified it as "the best album of 1984", and Matias José Ribeiro described it as "exceptional", reaffirming Nana as one of Brazil's greatest singers. Arnaldo de Souteiro, from Tribuna da Imprensa, compared the album to Elis & Tom by Antônio Carlos Jobim and Elis Regina, from 1974, and Manchete magazine elected it the best album of the year in the MPB and POP categories, even surpassing Michael Jackson's Thriller. Its lasting impact is evidenced by its inclusion in the list of the 500 greatest Brazilian music albums from the Discoteca Básica podcast, occupying position 387. Voz e Suor is the only work by Nana Caymmi and from César Camargo Mariano's solo career to feature on this list. More recent critics, such as Regis Tadeu and Sérgio Martins, continue to extol it as "completely brilliant, with incredible harmonic and melodic sensibility" and "one of the best voice and piano albums of all time", respectively.
