Context
Picassos Falsos emerged in 1985 in Rio de Janeiro, with a sound proposal ahead of its time, by integrating rock elements with a wide range of Brazilian rhythms. In 1987, the band released its eponymous debut album, scoring hits like "Quadrinhos" and "Carne e Osso" on radio stations in Rio and Belo Horizonte, and having "Quadrinhos" included on the soundtrack of the television programme Armação Ilimitada.
Recording
The album Supercarioca was released in 1988 by the Plug label, a rock-focused division of the BMG/Ariola record company. This work marked the entry of Luiz Henrique Romagnoli as the band's new bassist, contributing to the group's new sonic phase.
Songs
The compositions on Supercarioca showed a strong connection to the reality of Rio de Janeiro at the time, including tracks inspired by the tragedies of the storms that devastated the city that year. The album also stood out for bringing diverse musical references, with citations of songs by Noel Rosa and Jimi Hendrix, broadening the cultural spectrum of the work. Among the songs that stood out are "Wolverine", "O homem que não vendeu sua alma", "Rio de Janeiro", "Retinas", "Sangue" and the title track, "Supercarioca". The band intensified its exploration of Brazilian roots in tracks such as the ijexá "Fevereiro" and the samba-rock numbers "Verões" and "Fevereiro 2", which explicitly brought the quartet closer to the traditions of national music.
Legacy
Although it did not achieve the same commercial success as the previous record, Supercarioca is consistently hailed by critics and other artists as one of the most innovative works of the 1980s generation of Brazilian rock. Its relevance endures, as evidenced by the 2014 release of Supercarioca 25 Anos, reinforcing its status as an influential album ahead of its time.

"'Supercarioca' had a really cool creation process. During Carnival in 1988, we travelled to a farm in Baependi, Minas Gerais, to finish the songs we had sketched out and to create new ones. It was really good. This creative process is clearly reflected in the final result.
