Why This Album Matters
Crucificados pelo Sistema marks the explosive debut of Ratos de Porão, one of Brazil's most emblematic hardcore punk bands. Released in 1984, this album is a landmark not only for the national scene, but for the whole of Latin America, establishing itself as the first official release of a full hardcore punk album in the region. Its visceral and aggressive sound, characteristic of the genre, positions it as an essential sonic document of the punk effervescence of the era. The record, with its unmistakable original grey cover, introduced the public to the fury and raw energy that would become the band's signature, fronted by João Gordo's powerful vocals. The authenticity and impact of its tracks ensured the album a prominent place in the history of Brazilian heavy music.
Recording
The album was recorded at Vice-Versa studio, using 16-channel equipment, which at the time allowed for the capture of the sonic intensity Ratos de Porão proposed. This technical recording allowed the rawness and speed inherent in hardcore punk to be faithfully captured, defining the work's sound.
Legacy
Since its release, Crucificados pelo Sistema transcended national borders, being distributed in Europe and the United States, which attests to its global relevance. Proof of its lasting impact and continuous demand lies in its multiple re-releases, which include LP and CD editions by labels such as Devil Discos (1989), Pecúlio Discos (2009), and Heart Bleeds Blue (2016), each with distinct coloured covers, but retaining the essence of the original work. The album's consecration was reinforced in July 2016, when Rolling Stone Brasil magazine elected it as the best punk rock album in Brazil, solidifying its status as a fundamental pillar of the genre's discography in the country.

I'm not talking about their lo-fi, their poor recording is great, but there's something probably in the mastering of the instruments just doesn't sound the best thing ever. However, this doesn't stop the album from being a great listen. Crucificados pelo Sistema is still one of the greatest releases in Brazilian music.
