Why This Album Matters

Passado, Presente, Futuro is the debut album by the emblematic trio Sá, Rodrix e Guarabyra, released in 1972. This work marks the consolidation of the style the group helped christen: rock rural, an innovative fusion of influences ranging from rock to folk and sertaneja music, establishing a unique sound in the Brazilian musical landscape. With this record, the trio presented to the public the essence of their artistic proposal, which blended regionalism with a modern guise. It is in this context that songs were introduced that would become milestones in the group's career, such as "Mestre Jonas", one of the major highlights that solidified Sá, Rodrix e Guarabyra's musical identity from their very first steps.

Context

The formation of Sá, Rodrix e Guarabyra in 1971 brought together talents already established in the Brazilian music scene. Zé Rodrix had left the supergroup Som Imaginário and celebrated great success with the song "Casa no Campo", which, in Elis Regina's voice, popularised the concept of 'rock rural', defining the style the trio would later delve into. Concurrently, Luiz Carlos Sá already had his song "Giramundo" recorded by Peri Ribeiro in 1966, while Guttemberg Guarabyra gained recognition with "Margarida", performed with the group Manifesto and winner of the 1967 International Song Festival. The union of these artists in the early 70s was a convergence of experiences and visions that culminated in the creation of an original sound.

Songs

On Passado, Presente, Futuro, the trio demonstrated the richness and originality of their creative vein. The period of their formation was prolific in the composition of several songs, and it is in this context that the inclusion of tracks such as "Mestre Jonas" stands out, which would become one of their great hits and a symbol of the group's musical identity. The album's compositions reflected the rock rural proposal, with lyrics that addressed everyday and rural themes in an innovative musical format.
