Context
By 1963, the year Bossa, Balanço, Balada was released, Sylvia Telles was already an established and respected name on the Brazilian and international music scene. Since the mid-1950s, she had emerged as one of the prominent voices, having been introduced to the milieu by Billy Blanco and gaining prominence with her performance in the musical "Gente bem e champanhota" in 1955, which earned her an exclusive contract with Odeon and the 'Cantora Revelação' (Revelation Singer) award for the year. Sylvia Telles was also an essential part of popularising the term "bossa nova" in 1958, by participating in the show "Carlos Lyra, Sylvia Telles e os seus Bossa nova". Her career already included international tours and several albums, consolidating her reputation as a mature interpreter with great technical and emotional command, characteristics that certainly permeated this work, released during a period of creative effervescence for MPB.
