Why This Album Matters
Nós Vamos Invadir Sua Praia is the landmark debut album by the Brazilian rock band Ultraje a Rigor, released in 1985. This work consolidated the group's presence in the music scene, bringing fun and irreverent rock, with lyrics that captured the daily life and humour of the era. The album stands out for its contagious energy and a style that quickly captivated the public, turning Ultraje a Rigor into a phenomenon. The album's title, as explained by producer Pena Schmidt, served as a humorous provocation from São Paulo bands to Rio de Janeiro groups, symbolising the arrival of a new generation of musicians from São Paulo achieving success in Rio de Janeiro, one of the great birthplaces of national rock in the 1980s. In parallel, the title track also accurately describes the Paulistanos' practice of travelling down to Santos at weekends. With a sequence of successful singles preceding the LP, the album capitalised on the band's initial popularity and delivered a collection of songs that would become anthems for a generation, breaking attendance records at the group's shows.

Context
The recording of Nós Vamos Invadir Sua Praia was motivated by the great success of the band's previous singles, such as "Inútil/Mim Quer Tocar" and "Eu Me Amo/Rebelde Sem Causa", which had already established Ultraje a Rigor in the music scene. This context of effervescence for national rock in the 80s, especially with the rise of São Paulo bands that were "invading" the Rio de Janeiro market, served as a backdrop and inspiration for the album's title and sound.
Recording
The album was recorded in April 1985, predominantly at Estúdio Nas Nuvens, in Rio de Janeiro, under the production of Liminha and Pena Schmidt. Liminha also took on the artistic and musical direction, as well as contributing as a musician on guitar, acoustic guitar, percussion, programming, bass, and keyboards. The recording and mixing engineer was Vitor Farias. Some tracks had specific recordings: "Independente Futebol Clube" was recorded live at Rádio Clube, in São Paulo, on 6 April 1985, with technicians such as Egídio Conde and Élcio Alvarez Filho. The songs "Rebelde Sem Causa" and "Eu Me Amo" were recorded at Transamérica studios, also in Rio de Janeiro, in 1984, with Cláudio Farias as the recording engineer. The album features the participation of Herbert Vianna (Paralamas do Sucesso) on lead guitar for the track "Marylou", and on the title track, names like Lobão, Leo Jaime, Ritchie, and Selvagem Big Abreu (João Penca e Seus Miquinhos Amestrados) lent their vocals.
Songs
Among the album's most prominent songs are "Zoraide", "Ciúme", the lively "Independente Futebol Clube" (recorded live), "Eu Me Amo", and "Marylou", the latter featuring a memorable guitar solo by Herbert Vianna. The title track, "Nós Vamos Invadir Sua Praia", also received a music video shown on the programme Fantástico, and featured a chorus of illustrious voices. The album revisited hits from previous singles, such as "Inútil" and "Mim Quer Tocar", which were re-recorded for the LP. The tracks "Eu Me Amo" and "Rebelde Sem Causa" were re-included in their original versions. The reception was so positive that nine of the album's eleven tracks were among the most played on radio stations at the time, demonstrating the strength and appeal of Ultraje a Rigor's compositions.

Even with a helping hand from Dr. Ulysses Guimarães (who, in 1984, suggested to general-president João Figueiredo that he listen to the single with "Inútil"), the first LP by the "export-quality" São Paulo rock quartet Ultraje a Rigor took over a year to be released.

Legacy
Nós Vamos Invadir Sua Praia quickly achieved platinum status in Brazil, demonstrating its immense commercial success. Its relevance in the national rock scene was reiterated when it was named the "best album in national rock" by Revista MTV in December 2008. Revista Rolling Stone Brasil also recognised its importance, ranking it 27th on its list of the "100 best Brazilian music albums". The album was remastered and re-released on CD in 1990 and 2001, including bonus tracks such as the original versions of "Inútil" and "Mim Quer Tocar", as well as "Hino dos Cafajestes" and "Marylou (versão carnaval)". The 2001 edition also featured the song "Ricota". In 2010, the album was re-released on 180-gram vinyl by Polysom, reaffirming its permanence and value in the catalogue of Brazilian music.
