Context
Vauruvã is a Brazilian musical project formed in 2020 in Rio de Janeiro, led by multi-instrumentalist Caio Lemos and vocalist and lyricist Bruno Augusto Ribeiro. Caio Lemos is widely known for his prolific output in various other bands and projects, such as Kaatayra, Bríi, Bakt, Rasha, and Vestígio, where his singular and unmistakable style permeates any genre he approaches. Initially, Vauruvã emerged as an improvisational project. However, Mar da Deriva marks a significant shift, moving away from the improvisational aspect present in previous Vauruvã albums and closer to the characteristic sound found in Lemos's solo projects, although it maintains its own identity by prioritising vocal collaboration with Ribeiro. This is the band's third studio album.
Recording
The album Mar da Deriva was recorded between spring 2024 and autumn 2025, a period that allowed the band to refine their sonic vision. Caio Lemos was responsible for all instruments, the album's production, and additional vocals, demonstrating his mastery and creative control over the soundscape. Bruno Augusto Ribeiro contributed the lyrics and lead vocals, as well as collaborating on the cover art, which is essential to the work's visual identity. The album was released independently by the band, which highlights their artistic autonomy and dedication to presenting authentic, uncompromising work.

Specialised critics, such as The Progressive Subway, awarded it a rating of 8/10, emphasising that, although Caio Lemos is a prolific artist, this work manages to stand out in his extensive discography.
