Context

In the period preceding the recording of Waldick Soriano ao Vivo, in 2006, Waldick Soriano was already a veteran artist, with a career started in 1959 and dozens of albums released over the decades. At 74 years old, although his health already showed signs of fragility and his voice might occasionally falter, he maintained an intense schedule of shows, especially in Brazil's Northeast. The project for this album, which also culminated in a DVD, was born from the initiative of actress Patrícia Pillar, an admitted fan of Waldick, who met him at a concert in Sobral, Ceará. This meeting resulted not only in the live recording, but also in the production of a documentary about the singer, titled "Waldick: Sempre no Meu Coração", which would be released in 2007.

Recording

The album Waldick Soriano ao Vivo was recorded in November 2006, during a show at the Centro Cultural Sesc Luiz Severiano Ribeiro, in Fortaleza, Ceará, a place with special significance, as Waldick Soriano had lived in the city for many years. The direction of the show was handled by Patrícia Pillar, who also co-directed the musical direction alongside José Milton. The general production was by Patrícia Pillar and Mariza Leão, with executive production by Thiago Pimentel. The band that accompanied Waldick featured first-class musicians and carefully crafted arrangements. Jota Moraes was responsible for the piano, conducting and arrangements, with the participation of Nilsinho on trombone, João Lyra on acoustic guitar, Ítalo on accordion, Jorge Helder on bass and Don Chacal on percussion. The technical recording of the album was carried out with a mobile recording unit, Loudness, and in studios such as Estúdio Ararena and Cia. Dos Técnicos Studios, with the final mastering done at Classic Master.
